Vintage Sigi Pineda sterling silver necklace made in Taxo Mexico circa 1950. The hinged collar design is comprised of abstract peapods. Strong tongue clasp at the back. The clasp is stamped with his hallmark circle with an eagle and #25, Sigi & Taxco in joined ovals, and Sterling Heche en Mexico. Will encircle a 15 inch neck. Weighs 57 grams. Sigi Pineda is one of the last of the great historic artisans of Taxco, Mexico, and perhaps one of the last historic artisans still producing jewelry and new designs in Taxco. Sigi Pineda started working with some of the great Taxco masters from early childhood. He opened his own shop in 1952 at the age of 23. Unlike his predecessors who offered traditional design, he began producing work that was 50s modern with an acute attention to detail both artistically and technically.He is responsible for influencing the Mexican-Modernism art movement, and creating a style so distinct that people identify his work immediately.
