Rare Frank Tea & Spice Co. oak country store display chest, circa 1900. Four spice drawers with the original hand painted lettering; even the backs of the drawer pulls were hand painted. Measures 25.25 " wide X 21.25" high X 19.5 inches deep. Found in untouched condition in an old Connecticut country store, never waxed or varnished. The Frank Tea & Spice Company was begun in 1896 by traveling salesman Jacob Frank, with his brothers Emil and Charles, on East Second Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. They sold small packets of whole and ground spices, and later expanded to peanut butter and olives. The company is best known for Frank's Red Hot, a cayenne pepper sauce.
