18th century American rose gold memorial hair brooch. The obelisk tombstone is engraved CR OB June 19, 1793 AE 83; weeping willow branches and 2 ladies are finely painted in gouache. The This remarkable example of mourning jewelry is in completely original, never opened condition. Its condition is excellent for its age. A few of the gold framing pieces have come loosened as the old hide glue dried out, but could easily be re-attached if one desired. Measures 2.5 inches high by 1.75 inches across.
