Winfield Scott Clime oil painting on artist board. A coastal landscape view of the Potomac Palisades. Painted from Chain Bridge on the Virginia side of the Potomac River. Excellent condition including the period frame. The frame measures 25 x 29 inches and the painting measures 20 x 24 inches. Original label on reverse. Clime painted in Old Lyme, CT. He was born in 1881 in Philadelphia, PA. He trained at both the Corcoran Art School and the Art Students League in New York. Clime is known mostly for his connection to the Old Lyme Art Colony. He started his career in Washington, DC, where in 1916 he, along with Charles Seaton (1865-1926), co-founded a group originally known as “The Ramblers.” He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, Corcoran Gallery, National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Lyme Art Association.
