Antique Japanese ikebana bamboo basket, Meiji period circa 1890. Baskets for the traditional flower-arranging art of ikebana were a major craft in Japan in the late Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods, roughly 1890 to 1950. They are highly prized by museums and collectors worldwide. Double weave baskets like this one were very difficult to make and are highly sought after. It measures 13 inches wide, 11 inches deep, and 12 inches high. Wonderful deep rich original patina. Very good condition with just a very minor amount of use wear.
