Vintage African art hand carved sculpture "Rain God" made from a single block of African teak, Kenya c1970, signed Katumo. This is the rain god who controls rain. The open hand invoked rain and the closed hand stopped it. The rain god figure was kept in the granaries, with a sacrificial bowl before him. The artist, Katumo (see mark at base) is from the Wakamba Tribe located in Nairobi, east central Kenya. Excellent original condition. Measures 47 inches high and 11 inches wide.
