Schmieg and Kotzian round mahogany coffee table circa 1920. Fine book matched flame mahogany veneers over solid mahogany. Reeded edge and reeded straight tapered legs. Elegant design, beautiful condition. Measures 36 inches across by 17.75 inches high. Schmieg and Kotzian established a furniture making business in London in 1899; in 1907, the business relocated to New York. After Karl Schmieg died in 1949, the company continued on for a few more years, but was then sold. Both Karl Schmieg and Heinrich Kotzian were German cabinet makers, who were trained in the traditional European apprentice system. Their factory was on east 72nd Street for many years, and their show room was in mid-town.
