Judge James W Knox presentation gavel and block with sterling engraving c1911. The engraving states: By a unanimous rising vote in the Common Council Board it was resolved, That the thanks of this Board are hereby extend to the retiring President James W. Knox, for courteous and impartial manner in which he has presided over this board during the year. Hartford, Conn. March 27th 1911. Attest, Andrew J Nystrom clerk. Made from solid black walnut with hand carving depicting an eagle over a shield. The top is sterling silver. Measures 10 inches wide by 7 inches deep and 3 inches high, with a 11 inch long hammer, also made from solid walnut with sterling silver caps. Signed on bottom by the maker, C.H.D. G. S. 1912. Condition: excellent, with just a small piece missing off of the top of one of the eagle wings. The quality of the artisan carving, along with the beautiful engraving, makes this piece a true work of art.
