Arne Hovmand-Olsen side chair for Mogens Kold Furniture Denmark c1950. The quality of craftsmanship in this chair is very fine. The back legs are dovetailed into solid chestnut, the sides are set with walnut wedges, and there is an iron brace in the center of the base which adds additional strength and support. The arms are wrapped where the hands grip, and the seat is set with heavy bronze fasteners. This chair is both strong and comfortable. Unsigned. Measures 15.5 inches deep at seat, 30 inches to the back, 21 inches to the arms, 19 inches wide outside the arms, and 17.25 inches to the seat. Arne Hovmand Olsen apprenticed to cabinetmaker P. Olsen Sibast in 1938. After his apprenticeship, Arne dreamed of being able to design the furniture which he produced, and therefore enrolled in a technical school specializing in furniture design at Aarhus, in 1941. Once qualified, Arne started his own studio creating furniture, influenced by Scandinavian design and executed in a simple and light style. His furniture was sold in Denmark , but was mainly exported to the large overseas market, with the U. S. market being an avid consumer. His studio closed in the 1970's. T
