Vintage Talleres de Los Ballesteros, Taxco, Mexico, heavy hand-wrought silver cuff bracelet with cabochon purple agate center stone, circa 1955. This bracelet has a wonderful weight and design, and a strong tongue and groove closure. Stamped and hallmarked with the Los Ballesteros "B", within "Talleres de Los Ballesteros Taxco GRO", and Hecho en Mexico 925". Size: 6 3/8" circumference (around). The tablet measures 2" x 1 3/8" and the cabochon stone measures 1.25" x 1". It is set high. Ballesteros designs have their roots in Pre-Conquest clay stamps and architectural motifs. The studio won numerous awards at the Fiesta de la Plata in Taxco. To read more about Ballesteros (a contemporary of William Spratling), please see pages 251-253 of "Mexican Silver" by Penny Chittim Morrill and Carol A. Berk. These marks are also noted and shown in Bille Hougart's essential reference guide "The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks". This particular bracelet was pictured in JQ International article Taxco-City of Silver by Cynthia Unninayar on pages 41-44 from the private collection. JQ March/April 2006.
