Set of six SayBolt Cleland dining chairs, Philadelphia, c1960. Each chair was hand crafted from solid American cherry and measures 40.5 inches high, 20.5 inches across the balloon seat, 18.5 to the seat, and 17 inches deep. The chairs are first quality. The seat to back joints were made with tenons fitted completely through the mortises, so the chairs are very strong. They are also comfortable and in excellent original condition. Saybolt Cleland, Inc. was known for its unsurpassed quality. It made the finest reproduction furniture in Philadelphia for over forty years, from 1933 to the mid 1970's. They specialized in duplicating the finest examples of American and English antiques from museums, historic homes, and private collections. Their clientele included Fortune 500 companies, State and Federal offices, and many of America's most prominent families.
