A rare Mughal tapestry, hand embroidered (w/silk, cotten & metallic threads) on an indigenous dyed red wool background (composed of 13 individual sections), the design "The Tree of Life" over a couched gilt-thread, archaic style vase within a classic Islamic cartouche, bordered by various floral arabesque design elements, including stylized poppies. Northern India, late 17th, early 18th centuries.Note: this tapestry has been recently professionally cleaned, minimally restored & archival mounted to museum conservation standards. There remains minor losses from age, newly mounted on natural linen. Custom gilt shadow box framed, behind non-glare plexiglass. Tapestry dimensions: 64" H x 38 1/2" W. Framed dimensions: 71" H x 45" W. Northern India, c. 1680-1730
