Olive Parker Black summer landscape oil painting on canvas. Signed lower right. The painting measures 16 x 24 inches and the period gold leaf frame measures 29 x 37 inches. Excellent condition. Olive Parker Black (1868–1948) was a talented American female artist who thrived during the primarily male-dominated period of nineteenth century American painting, Olive Parker Black studied at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League, under the tutelage of renowned American painters, Hugh Bolton Jones, William Merritt Chase, and Edwin Blashfield. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the artist spent much of her career in New York, though she often summered in the Berkshire Mountains, where she painted many of her prized landscapes. Black was a member of the National Association of Women Artists, the New York Society of Painters, the American Artists Professional League, and the Copley Society in Boston. During her lifetime, Black exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, the Boston Art Club, the Society of American Artists, and the Carnegie Institute.
