Authentic Civil War letter written by Daniel Booth Before Petersburg Feb 23 1865. Booth is writing to a friend to tell her his health is good and that it is raining and they are staying put because of it. If the other side keeps quite until the morning they are not about to pick a fight with them this evening. He states they are so close they could throw hard tack to one another. He states "our guns could knock Petersburg into Hell" He talks about how sometimes each side meets half way and swaps coffee for tobacco. He writes the reds are deserting at a rate of around 150 a night and coming over to our side. There is rarely a night this does not happen. His letter is signed Daniel Booth 1st Brig 3red Div 6th Corps Washington DC. Measures approximately 8x 10 inches. Fold marks,very good condition for its age.
