Sanborns Mexico Sterling desert trowel. In 1903 Walter and Frank Sanborn started a small drugstore named "Sanborn's" in 1A San Francisco de Mexico. A man named Frederick W. Davis supervised Sanborn's antiques and fine arts divisions from 1935 on. The three owls (in use since 1931) you can see in the logo represent Frank Sanborn and his two sons. Frank Sanborn died in 1961. The mark on this piece places its origin as somewhere in the early 1930s according to The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks, Hougart. Weighs 170 grams and is 9 and three quarter inches long.
