Naga wood carving fragment from a Buddhist temple in Thailand c1800. This "Naga" carving was originally part of a temple in Thailand. It is made from hand carved wood and retains it old wash painted surface. It has been mounted to a metal base as a piece of sculpture. Measures 64 and one quarter inches high by 6 and one quarter inches wide by 12 inches deep.The word Naga is rooted in Sanskrit which means serpent. Naga is one of a handful of rare words surviving the loss of the first universal language. In Buddhism, wisdom has always been symbolically tied to the figure of the serpent.
