This image of the eagle with flags and banner became enormously popular at the end of the Civil War. Our country was struggling to heal and rebuild, and this was an uplifting image of patriotism. E. Pluribus Unum. (One Out of Many) became our new country's official motto in 1782, and was particularly meaningful in the aftermath of war. These eagle pictures continued to be made well into the early 20th century.18 by 22 inches.
