American four slat back mushroom armchair, circa 1700-1710. Its origin is probably Rhode Island, possibly Connecticut. The use of ash and maple woods is typical in these chairs. The ash could be split to rough out the turnings, and the maple provided beauty. The term mushroom refers to the arm caps and finials. The posts should be turned in one piece. Original finish with replace seat. 44 inches high, 15 inches from floor to seat and 24 and one half inches wide
