Renaissance style mirror made by the hands of a master craftsman skilled in Old World frame making arts. The piece is water gilded all over with 22K gold. A band of cobalt-blue egg tempera paint was then used to create the accomplished by "sgrafitto" -- carefully scratching away portions of the tempera paint by hand -- a technique popular during the Italian Renaissance. The gold surface of this unique piece is lightly distressed.The grape leaf decorative motif is based on a fresco border from the Basilica of St. Francis of Asissi in Italy. We sell very few reproductions of period pieces, but this exquisite frame is one that we are proud to offer.
