This late Classic Saltillo Sarape is woven in two panels, natural vegetal dyes with cochineal red, 2 ply cotton warp, 14 count, z-twist cool weft: ca 70 count. Worn as a primary outer garment and as a sleeping blanket for Mexican and southwesterners in the nineteenth century. This classic serape measures 78 inches by 42 inches. circa 1850 to 1880.
