SOLD ITEM 3569 - Antique Victorian horn arm chair

There are 4 images of this item.
Antique horn chair. This is an interesting and puzzling piece. The horns are from a longhorn steer, but the chair's design is outside of traditional American forms for this type of furniture. We believe it was either made in Mexico or made in the American southwest by a Mexican immigrant. The applied leaf and the brass "jewelry" on the horns are too exotic to be American; the rather primitive wooden base with the flower carving is typical of Mexican village furniture. American horn chairs almost always feature horn bases, and the horns are not mounted with brass or otherwise decorated. The chair probably dates to the turn of the nineteenth century
