Pink Luster, or lustre, commemorative jug: Liverpool and Manchester Railway circa 1830, featuring the Moorish Arch in Liverpool and the locomotive 'Novelty'. Earthenware jug printed with a view of the entrance to the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, the first passenger railway in the world, which opened in 1830. The view shows the line entering the tunnel at Edge Hill as it approached the Liverpool terminus. See Commemorative Pottery 1780-1900 by J. & J. May, plate 243, for a mug with a similar print. Stamp on bottom states 'G. H. Baecker Collection'. Overall 6.25" W x 4.75" H.
