SOLD ITEM 10611 - Set of 8 hand made Windsor chairs in blackk by Lawrence Crouse Workshop

There are 10 images of this item.
Set of 8 vintage hand made Windsor chairs crafted by Lawrence Crouse Workshop in crackle black. Beautifully executed. These chairs are in excellent condition, both strong and extremely comfortable. Purchased 25 years ago. There are four different types of wood in the chairs. Hickory spindles that are very flexible, white oak which provides structural integrity. Hard maple is used for turnings because it holds crisp edges while providing strength. Poplar or pine provides the seats with their thickness while remaining light weight. They were very committed to detail when building these chairs. All joints are wedged or pinned; the bottoms are jack-planed. The crackle and worn paint finish provides a patina that gives the appearance of texture and age. Traditionally, early Windsors were painted due to the fact that so many different woods went into their construction.
